Welcome to the Personal Page of John Jacquin for TEAM LAURA
Please support our 7th annual RideAtaxia fundraiser to sponsor research and raise awareness for Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), the progressive neuromuscular illness that affects my daughter Laura Jacquin. Diagnosed at age 11, Laura suffers from a serious cardiac condition, severe fatigue, has lost her ability to walk or write, hearing and speech difficulties, and experienced a substantial vision loss the year she graduated from college.
This past year scientists and doctors continued their work in five active clinical trials with a phase 3 study completing in October. Hopefully, one of these studies will identify the first treatment for FA. With the prospect of gene therapy coming soon, there is still much work to be done! The possibility of a cure grows with every donation made to FARA and with every trial that is completed. Your support helps Laura participate in clinical trial research!
Laura continues to lead as active a life as she can - and looks forward being with friends & family, attending special events, exercise, shopping, "reading" audio books, etc. She especially enjoys fundraising and leading Team Laura and has a passion for supporting FARA.
The last five years TEAM LAURA has been a top fundraising team with combined donations of over $140,000!! Congratulations to our 2016 team members on the bike ride, and, with all our supporters, for the incredible fundraising result of raising over $38,000! We hope be a top fundraising team again in 2017. We have raised a cumulative total of over a quarter of a million dollars for FARA since we started this effort in 2002. We would love to have you join us or donate to our cause.
Thank you for your support, John
