TEAM MITCH RIDES AGAIN!
On March 24 in Denton, TX I'm riding again to cure Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), a debilitating, life shortening neuromuscular disease. I’ll ride with local FA families, friends and cycling enthusiasts to redefine what is possible in FA research.
rideATAXIA was founded by Kyle Bryant, a young man with FA. Kyle redefined what was possible in his life when he took up recumbent cycling. He says after training for and completing his first century ride, "I can't even walk down the street, but I rode 100 miles in a day. After that the sky was the limit." Since 2007, rideATAXIA has raised over $5 million to fund FA research progress.
My son Mitch struggled with FA all of his life. In 2013 he made the decision to ride in the Bearathon at Baylor University in Waco, TX. With the help of friends' donations, he was able to get a recumbent bicycle and began to train as often as possible so that he could complete the ride. On March 21, 2014, he reached his goal, completing the 3.1 mile course in about 45 minutes. This was one of the milestones in his life. After the race, he continued to ride, but due to complications of FA, he wasn't able to do the race again. Mitch passed away on 04/04/2016.
Join me in remembering Mitch and in supporting the urgent pace of that research. Donate and if you can, join Team Mitch and ride with me in Denton. Together we will cure FA!
