Hi! My name is Kate, and I am 14 years old. I was diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) at the age of 12. FA makes me have trouble with my balance and coordination. My doctor says that the best way to explain it is that my brain does not know where my feet are in space. I have trouble with things most people don't even have to think about such as carrying a glass of water across the kitchen or walking up or down stairs. I hope that you will help us!
This will be the second year that my family and I will be participating in rideATAXIA to raise awareness about FA and to raise money for FA research. RideATAXIA was founded by Kyle Bryant. Kyle redefined what was possible in his life when he took up recumbent cycling. Kyle participated in the Race Across America and was inspired to found rideATAXIA to raise money to support FA research. Since 2007, rideATAXIA has raised over $6 million to fund FA research progress. Kyle also stars in a documentary about his team's participation in the Race Across America.
We'll be riding with FA families, friends, and cycling enthusiasts. RideATAXIA is a fully SAG supported ride with a 6, 25, and 50 mile course. We would love for you to join our team or register to ride on your own. If you are unable to participate, help us raise awareness by sharing our story. Donations are greatly appreciated. Every penny helps us reach our $10,000 goal. Join us in supporting the urgent pace of FA research. Donate today. Together we WILL cure FA!
